Is A Market Blog Important ?

This is an interesting one and I know there will be varying views on this.

This is completely my opinion and probably what I am reading forward.

Will blogs be an important tool in the market place for agents in the future?

The short answer is yes.

The more defined answer is let me explain a little why I think this?

In real estate we don’t really have products or stock that we order in, like a shop does.

The way we generate our stock is through market connection (building relationships).

As agents this isn’t always the easiest task because we are already behind the eight ball because most people are wary of agents and it can take a little while for people to warm to us.

So, this is my point here.

I think a blog will be a very important tool in the future because it will allow us to communicate with the market place and help us form relationships more quickly and easily and then hopefully over time generate a following.

A good blog can become an extension of you and your work style.

It can allow people (the market place) to get to know you before they actually meet you.

It can enhance the connection in a meeting because the clients may feel they already know you on some level having viewed your blog from time to time.

In the future I think the agents that understand and embrace the importance of this will accelerate their presence in the market place and in turn secure lots more business.

So, that all sounds good but what are the things to look out for here?

This is just my experience.

Blogs take quite a bit of work.

They require easy to read and relevant content.

They have to be interesting enough for people to come back again and again.

They have to look good (not too much stuff).

Your blog should be seen as a leader rather than just a processor of boring information (this means you have to be constantly prospecting for the latest info).

Having said that once you get it in place and up and running you can sort of create your own rules on how you would like your blog to run and how much or how little info you would like to share but always remember the reason you are blogging is to build a following, not just put stuff up for no reason.

My take on this is if you build an effective market blog it will become a marketing landing page for you and over time you can concentrate all of your efforts on this instead of running extensive self promotion campaigns etc etc.

The other thing a blog will do is provide you will a social networking platform that will become your communication point for the market via twitter and facebook.

When the market follows you through these channels, much of the info that you share can come straight from your blog and in turn will increase the following of your blog at a fairly rapid rate.

Basically it will be a very important tool for pro-active agents in the future and if done right you will build a market profile that is not only more broad but more trusted because you are sharing real information that people will find useful and when you give you will form a connection with people much quicker.

If this is something that you have thought about or are currently thinking about I would highly recommend you start moving in this direction.

This is my market place blog/pre-list kit called www.whymat.com that I thought I’d share with you.

One small piece of advice, Kiryn (my designer) has been instrumental in the progression of my branding in the market place and I would suggest before you create a blog of any sort seek the advice or guidance of an expert in the web field before you do one. Having a good designer will save you lots of time trying to work out what works.

Your designer should be someone who is up to date on the latest social network movements and is interested in your brand looking as good as it can, not just someone who can punch out a blog as quickly and easily as they can.

Remember the designer you have (if they are good) will be your partner for many years to come and will help you stay ahead of the bell curve when there are new things on the horizon.

Have you thought about having a market place blog?

What Would You Change

It’s almost the end on 2011 and we are given a brand new clean slate for 2012.

The question is what would you change if you looked back along this year?

Did you achieve what you wanted to?

Did you give it 110% with an absolute laser beam focus?

Did you make each day count, that lead to your most successful year ever?

Did you take care of the rest of your life also, so you feel fulfilled?

These are just a few questions that would pay to ask yourself because you have a brand new opportunity to change the results if you didn’t reach the heights you would of liked.

On the flip side, wouldn’t it be an absolute waste to not recognise and be real about the changes you could potentially make.

Wouldn’t it be a waste to venture into this new exciting year with the same habits and the same disciplines as the year just gone by if you didn’t achieve close to what you wanted.

The year that has gone is gone and will never come back but the year that is in front of us is totally yours to design.

How electrifying is that?

To think that you are 100% responsible for designing this brand new year coming.

How do you want it to look?

What are you wanting to get out of it?

What are the things you would of done differently?

For instance:

Would you engage a coach?

Would you prospect harder?

Would you study the Law of Attraction more?

Would you be a better Parent?

Would you take more time off?

Would you attend AREC?

What is it you would do to generate the most amazing year of your life so far?

See, if nothing changes, nothing changes and if you aren’t happy with the outcome of this year then….. CHANGE IT!

Get committed, raise your standards and give it nothing short of your absolute best and you watch not just your outcomes change but your life.

Life is all about how you design it and it’s entirely up to you how you want it to look.

There’s so much opportunity just waiting for you but the only way to find it is actually step towards it.

As John McGrath said to me recently “the journey of 1,000 miles starts with one step forward” and unless you are willing to take the first step and walk in that direction you will never reach the place you are wanting to go.

What is it you would change from the year just gone?
